Profile

PT Adaro Energy Tbk is a publicly listed company on the Indonesia Stock Exchange that is currently Indonesia’s second largest thermal coal producer, operating the largest single coal mine in Indonesia, and is a significant supplier to the global seaborne thermal coal market. The company is vertically integrated either directly or indirectly controlling all aspects of its business from exploration through to marketing. With a present capacity of approximately 55Mt per year, the company is executing plans to increase this capacity to 80Mt per year. The company has approximately 3.5 billion tonnes of coal reserves and resources. Most of the coal production is sold directly to end-users however some of the production is handled by Coaltrade, the Group’s coal trading arm which has rapidly developed into a major ternational trading operation since 2000 and now trades more than 8 million tonnes of coal annually from both internal and external sources to power utilities around the world. Other subsidiaries that support the Group coal mining operations include SIS, contract mining company that in 2008 removed 86 million cubic meters of overburden and 11.5 million tonnes of coal for some of Indonesia’s largest coal mining operations and IBT, that operates a major coal export terminal operation in Kalimantan that has shipped more than 75 million tonnes of coal to customers worldwide since it commenced operation in 1998. The Group is entering into the power sector via MSW with development of a 60 mw mine mouth coal fired power station to be situated close to a newly developing coal mine within its coal lease area in South Kalimantan. This station will supply power for new infrastructural devel-opments such as a long distance overland conveyor in support of the Group’s coal production expansion plans. In addition, another power subsidiary is also closely examining prospects for merchant power developments in Java and other locations for industrial complexes. A new subsidiary, SDM recently completed dredging of a major sea channel which formed part of the coal logistics chain and which had become a bottleneck for not only the Group’s production but also all other coal production from the province. SDM is also involved in the channel traffic management. The Group also recently acquired OML, a Singapore based marine logistics company that was already active in providing barging and transshipment services to the coal mining operations. This latest acquisition has made the Group fully integrated from pit to port. Going forward, Adaro Energy, will continue to look for business opportunities that will enhance its vision to become the largest and most efficient integrated coal mining andenergy group in South East Asia.
