Profile

Dominica is a small island nation in the eastern part of the Caribbean. The country’s capital is Roseau. The official language is English, and French Creole (Kweyol) is also widely spoken. The currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar (XCD). Dominica’s economy has traditionally been based on agriculture, but in recent years the service sector-particularly tourism-has played an increasingly important role. Dominica’s securities market is part of the regional financial infrastructure of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union. Debt and equity securities are traded on the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange (ECSE), which serves the eight member states and territories of the monetary union. The ECSE facilitates the initial public offering and secondary trading of government and corporate securities. Dominica’s bond market is dominated by the public sector. Government bonds and treasury bills issued by the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica are traded on the ECSE.
